Leafware Giveaway: Win tableware from Mother Nature!

(This post is now closed for entries.  See “Comments” for the winner.)

Usually the mere mention of “fallen leaves” makes me groan and roll my eyes, because it means I’ll have a rake in my hands for hours on end cleaning up my yard.  This time I was grinning from ear to ear, because the leaves arrived neatly packaged in a box… and there was absolutely no raking involved!

leafwareEnter: Leafware! The coolest use (ever!) for fallen leaves… think plates and bowls, all courtesy of Mother Nature.  They have created this fabulous line of tableware that is made entirely of naturally shed leaves.  They are collected, pressure-washed, scrubbed, sun dried, compressed and then sterilized to create this unique, eco-friendly and 100% biodegradable and compostable dinnerware.

Imagine being able to actually use disposable tableware without guilt!  Use them for hot or cold foods, in the microwave, the oven, the refrigerator, the freezer (or take them on a picnic!)… and when you’re finished, they degrade in 60 days in the composter.  The bigger bonus is that they are really beautiful so they can be used for any event, from casual to even your fancy-schmanciest occasion! They are that fantastic!

The fine folks at Leafware want to give a Mom Goes Green reader the chance to give them a try.  They are offering:leafwr squar

  • (12) 9″ Square Plates
  • (12) 8.6″ Round Plates
  • (12) 7″ Hexagon Snack Plates and
  • (12) 7″ Bowls

I know you want them(!) so leave a comment saying you’d like to win and tell me how you’d like to use them, or send a Twitter message that includes a reply to @momgoesgreen and a link to this blog. This giveaway has an approximate $50 value(!) and the winner will be selected one week from today’s post. (US entries only… sorry!)

Leafware is definitely doing something great here… now if I could just convince them to make a “pick-up” of all of my backyard leaves next Fall, I would be beaming! 🙂

23 Eco-Friendly Ways To Save Money While You Save The Planet

"Going green" has always been a part of my daily life. It began, as a little girl, when I helped my mom gather the recyclables and deliver them to a recycling center. It continues today, as a mom myself, when I teach my own children those same responsible virtues.

There are so many more facets of going green in the modern day, and the definition of the term reaches far beyond simple recycling. But going green isn't just about installing solar panels on your rooftop... it's about all the little choices that make the biggest difference. From food choices, to cleaning your home, to saving money on your monthly utility bills and consumption; the choices are vast.

However, there is a popular misconception that "going green" will "cost you green." We're inundated with green products, eco-friendly formulas, organics and mountains of options, making it seem that going green is an investment rather than an opportunity.

Well, I'm here to help dispel that myth and actually show you all of the ways you can live green, keep your family healthy, and benefit the environment without sacrificing anything, including your money.

When you make wise choices to gain the most benefit, relieve the burden on the environment, and save money to use elsewhere, everyone wins. You've already taken the first step. You've come here for help to make it happen.

Put these tips into action, and you will soon find that you can "save green" while you "go green"!

  1. Oh my goodness, these are the coolest disposable plates I have ever seen! What a genius idea. They are certainly welcome to all the leaves they want from our place, too. I would love to win these plates. How would I use them? We’d save them to use when we have our annual (vegetarian) garden party for my husband’s college students. Then we wouldn’t have to worry about finding plastic plates in the bushes or under the porch. We could just have the students toss them in the compost pile. Thanks for sharing this great tableware with us!

  2. “I would like to win”…what a great idea and what a great gift it would make for one of my sisters who lives in a lake community that is surrounded with trees. These would make her the envy of the next covered dish get together. I’ll have to check out their site for more ideas.

    Thanks for the info! 🙂

  3. This is absolutely FANTASTIC! Why hasn’t someone thought of this before? I would use these pieces to get people talking…talking about the importance of using products like this…talking about the basics of composting…talking about how each of us CAN make a difference.

  5. I love them!! I would use them for when I have company. I do have some compostable disposables now, but they are nowhere near as nice as these– so it would be great to use them for company and not have to do dishes!

  6. Oh my Gosh! I love these Leafware dishes. They would be perfect to use all summer on the deck, as well as at our lake house. I HATE to use disposable plates but the kids LOVE to eat outdoors. I really like that they can go in the microwave and the freezer–very handy for a very busy mom!!!!

  7. How great, I love these….what a great idea!!! A piece of my daughter’s birthday cake would look beautiful sitting in the middle of one of these plates. Her birthday party is coming up next weekend, would love to serve her marble cake with vanilla icing and pink roses on it!!!
