Diana - I've heard a lot of conflicting reports on that. Some organics aren't even really necessary, when they have thick coverings or hard rinds -- melons, bananas, asparagus even. But for produce like strawberries, spinach, etc. I like taking a little extra step...it's all eco-friendly, so what could it hurt? Rinsing just doesn't seem like it could do the trick completely.

Honestly, virtually everyone - from Consumer Reports to Environmental Working Group - says the best way to deal with pesticides on most fruits and vegetables is just to rinse them several times in running water. Produce with a peel - cukes, apples, potatoes, etc. - will benefit from a rough scrubbing. But for everything else, the simplest and most effective remedy (other than buying organic) is to rinse in running water several times!
