A Mom's Journey To Green Living

CB060663Mom Goes Green is always sharing ways to try to improve the things around you… your family’s daily life, your home, your community, our planet.  But what about you?  What’s a stressed-out and tired Green Mom to do?

Well, let me tell you!  Here are three simple ways (with relatively earth-friendly twists) to naturally rejuvenate and leave the stress behind (even if only for a night!):

  • Go ahead and splurge – take a bath and add some natural and organic bath salts.  Studies show that the salts increase prolactin levels by up to a third and help in relaxation!
  • Grab a cup of hot organic coffee or tea – it can actually trigger psychological warmth and pleasant feelings, even after only holding it for 10 seconds!  For a natural antidepressant, add a nice spice… cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, you choose.
  • Turn off the TV and read – stimulating your mind actually creates happiness.  To be eco-friendly, borrow books from the library or a friend, make your purchase at a used book store or, for the avid reader, buy a Kindle.

There you have it… simple steps… and what it takes for a stressed Green Mom to shake off the blues!

  1. smilinggreenmom Said,

Oh yes Doreen, I so need these tips! Whew- this mama has a tendency to get anxious and I really need to practice more techniques that are natural :) I do love to soak and have found that I hold a lot of stress in my neck and my feet. Since I do not know much about reflexology I use my Topricin foot cream. It is an all natural cream to help with achy and sore feet and they also have a natural pain cream for adults and Topricinkids works great for our little ones with minor aches and pains and even inflammation!

I also love to soak my feet in hot water with essential oils! Oooh- good. I also drink coffee but realize tea would be better. So anyway- thanks a lot!!

    smilinggreenmom – you’re welcome… now get to relaxing! :)

  3. Lisa Said,

First off the title makes me laugh because I grew up in “Happyland” which isn’t really a town but this area outside of the city limits of Ada (where I live now). They don’t have a post office but there is water tower (which of course says Happyland), a sign, and a volunteer fire dept. (which my dad is on). OH and a church of course lol. (We have lots of churches in Oklahoma)

Also hot tea and hot baths are my favorite. I have fibromyalgia and both of these help me to force my muscles to relax.

  4. Doreen Said,

Lisa – well, I’m just jealous now… you are actually FROM Happyland! :)
