I never use plastic bags either! I love your bullet point about salvaging glass jars and thought I'd share this: In my family, we go through peanut butter jars like crazy. Instead of "investing" in new reusable containers, I take the label off of the jars, run them through the dishwasher and reuse them. I use them for leftovers, and also for drinking glasses when we have large BBQs or get togethers.

biofriendlyblog - I'm with you... "not taking the bait!"

OneGreenMommy - I thought the same thing! For the freezer issue, have you considered glass containers? They take up a little more space, but they are an option!

Earth Friendly - the plastic leaching issue is certainly an issue. I definitely prefer glass any day, over plastics of any sort!

I hadn't heard about Ziploc Evolve, but I wonder if they have addressed the issue of the toxins in the plastic leaching into food - that to me is even more important than making them with less plastic. (and yes, I agree as well with the "greenie" ploy. I suppose it is a step in the right direction, but still it is a throw away product - not too earth friendly in the long run)

So I have to admit, I did break down and buy one of those boxes. They are very thin plastic baggies, which I guess is better than the others. But it begs the question, if they can make them like that - why don't they change ALL of the bags to be that way? I used mine up, after reusing , which they are not the best for, and am now done. And while I am a big fan of my reusable containers, I do find myself every now and needing a bag -- say for frozen uncooked meat. Like if you buy a large package of chicken breasts and split them up and freeze them. I've used plastic wrap and then aluminum foil but I am wasting more then? Any suggestions?

"(I personally think that the new Ziploc evolve baggies are just a way to suck 'greenies' like us back to their storage bags..."

Couldn't agree with you more! :)
